After their return from Rockingham Dragway, it was business-as-usual at HTP Performance Inc. Owner/Crew Chief Cecil Towner went back to the dyno and turning wrenches. Unfortunately, a customer improperly-installed his sidewinder and left his bike to be dyno tuned. The oil cooler line lying on the headers of his new exhaust caught fire and engulfed the bike... and Cecil. He received third degree burns to his right leg and spent 2 weeks in the Critical Care Hospital of MCV. His father, and team member, "Big Cec" stepped up and ran the shop and race program while Cecil was in the hospital. They travelled to MIR to compete, knowing they had to do well to secure the points lead. Cecil would call each round to instruct his father of tune adjustments and ride suggestions from his hospital bed. It was an amazing team effort that resulted in a WIN for HTP in Maryland. Keith Thompson has now greatened his points lead in the MIROCK series. Entering the Finals in November, Keith needs only to qualify and win one round in order to claim the Championship for the second year in a row.

Team HTP was also without Cecil on their trip to the AMA race in Norwalk, OH. They didn't come home with a win at the Track or Treat Nationals, but managed to increase their points lead in the series. Keith Thompson is arguably the hottest rider in Real Street racing right now. Riding a GSXR-1000 out of the HTP Performance camp the defending MIROCK champ claimed a double win at Atco winning the event title and taking the win in the special AMA vs. MIROCK Real Street Shootout sponsored by Brock’s Performance.

The win was the second AMA Dragbike national event win of the year for Thompson. He has four final round appearances in MIROCK action this year and currently leads the points in both series.

Thompson qualified off the top of the sheet in the seventh spot during Sunday’s one-shot qualifier but came to life in round one of eliminations with a 8.03 to make him the second quickest rider of the event to #1 plateholder Jeremy Teasley. Teasley went out in the second round getting by veteran John Hall and then Darion Payne to earn a semifinal single.

On the other side of the ladder Coby Adams, team owner and crew chief to Rickey Gadson, was quickly becoming the sentimental favorite, going deep into eliminations and making the final in just his third appearance in the class and the first since Atco of last year.

The highly anticipated final was not to be as Adams spit a shim out in the semis and was not able to make the final. Thompson staged the bike under power and took the green for the win.

Thompson took the Shootout win over fellow Brock’s-suppored/ TiWinder- equipped Hayabusa of Ashon Dickerson.

The win gives Thompson a slim, two-point lead over defending series champ Teasley.

“This one is going down to the wire,“ said Brock. “ It’s a little bit of redemption for Keith because he felt he was wronged at Indy when Teasley was reinstated after being disqualified. He really bounced back from that by winning both classes at Atco. Since their record-breaking showing in Martin, MI, Team HTP has continued to be successful in both AMA and MIROCK Series. Real Street Rider, Keith Thompson, has gone to the finals in every MiRock race since (FBR Shop Bike Nationals, Fast by Gast WPGC Bike Fest, Schnitz Racing Summer Sizzler, Honda-Suzuki of Sanford Bike Open) He has maintained the points lead, but is fighting to keep his position over Rickey Grayson &amp; Jeremy Teasley.

In other HTP News, the Prostreet Bike bettered the national Nitrous record, running 7.42s at AMA's Pingel Thunder Nationals in Indianapolis, IN. The HTP team has been experimenting with the Wizard of Nitrous system this 2009 season with great success. BROCK'S PERFORMANCE-EQUIPPED KEITH THOMPSON SMASHES THE 7-SECOND BARRIER IN AMA DRAGBIKE'S BST REAL STREET CLASS 


 
DAYTON, Ohio. (June 19, 2009) – Brock's Performance-equipped Keith Thompson set a major drag-racing milestone at the AMA Dragbike Summer Nationals, becoming the first racer to reach the 7s in the BST Real Street class. 
 
Thompson scored the record-setting 7.98/172.39 pass on his HTP Cycles-prepared 2007 GSX-R1000 using a trio of premier Brock's Performance brands: carbon fiber wheels from BST, Brock's patent-pending TiWinder, a titanium, elliptical, side-mounted exhaust system and a Brock's Dragshock by Öhlins.
 
Real Street is a limited-budget class with heads-up, no-breakout competition. Although internal engine modifications are unlimited, Real Street power levels are controlled by mandating an OEM-style, non-lockup clutch. Real-world reliability is proven in 10-mile road course tests at selected events.
 
This run was laid down during Saturday's first round of qualifying and backed up within one percent for the record books as Thompson climbed to the top of the ladder.
 
“The 8.01s and 8.02s have been coming easily, so I wanted to be the first guy in the sevens,” said the 42-year-old straight-lining veteran from Upper Marlboro, Maryland. “Finally, I got that monkey off my back. I'd like to thank Brock's Performance for sponsoring me this year and Brock Davidson for all his tuning help and advice this weekend.”
 
Without enough time for his bike's clutch to cool from an earlier run, Thompson went out in the semi-final round, but continues to lead the BST Real Street championship point standings with four rounds of the series remaining.
 
Thompson's accomplishment resonates with Davidson, Brock's Performance president and a former American Suzuki Motor Corporation-sponsored racer who, in 2000, was the first man to take a street-legal motorcycle into the seven-second bracket.

It was an experimental weekend for the HTP team. A number of changes were made to the PST busa and RST bikes, for better and for worse. Cecil decided to try using a slider in his ProStreet bike, but quickly returned to the more consistent MTC Gen II clutch and ran 3 consecutive 3.750 passes. The team qualified, but faced a first round loss to Domino, who would go on to win the weekend's race. 

A MSD SB6 was added to Keith Thompson's RealStreet 1000, and proved effective. He qualified 1st with an 8.04. Thompsons rode his way to the final to lose to Caleb McDougald in the final. McDougald was also jockeying an HTP-built GSXR1000. Although a loss for Cecil's team, he was proud of McDougald's accomplishment. "Caleb is a very impressive up and coming star in drag racing. Compliments to his team for their preparation and performance."



The Real Street Busa experienced some bogging issues. They ultimately decided not to compete in Sunday's elimination rounds for fear of damaging the motor.

Because of the economic conditions and track availability we will not be rescheduling this event. We arrived in Maryland early Saturday to set up the new Bazzaz Performance tents and prepare for the weekend&amp;#39;s events. If all things went according to plan, Cecil&amp;#39;s Real Street bike would run another 7.9, like it did in testing, to break the class record and be the first to  record a pass in the 7&amp;#39;s. &lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;The sizzling heat may have been difficult for the many fans that turned out, but wasn&amp;#39;t enough to slow down the HTP team. The Real Street 1000 and Busa qualified first and second, respectively, both running 8.08s in the 1/4mi. Hopefully tomorrow brings that 7s pass we&amp;#39;ve been iching for, but for now we&amp;#39;re satisfied with the number one and two seed.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;In other HTP news, the nitrous Pro Street Busa made its fastest pass ever in qualifying. Team HTP won the Real Street class for the 2009 MTC Elmer Trett National race at Atlanta Dragway April 5, 2009. Keith Thompson beat out defending champion, Jeremy Teasley in the finals for the win.

Test &amp;amp; tune went well Thursday.&lt;p&gt;Real Street Busa ran 8.13s on its first test pass and went back in the trailer.&lt;p&gt;True Street Champ, Keith Thompson, tested a new motor and nitrous system on his GSXR 1000. Had some issues, but still ran competitive numbers while breaking up. The HTP team still hopes to break their 8.01s pass this weekend.&lt;p&gt;The long-awaited reveal of the HTP ProStreet Busa brought the team much attention and compliments.
